Trying to make sense of $87.5 billion

A minimum wage worker, with no payroll deductions, could earn $87.5 billion in 6579 years - if said worker were willing to forego shelter, food, medical care.

A small-town computer consultant, working 'round the clock (to get enough billable hours), could pull it off in 729 years - if he didn't stop to blog (or to pee), and only paused for one NW swell + incoming tide, per year.

4 Halliburton retirees could get together and do it in a year - assuming they all retired from Halliburton, moved to Wyoming just in time to get appointed Vice President by the Supremes, and repaid those handsome retirements with no-bid, cost-plus contracts.

Or those Iraqi kids on the news yesterday - they were throwing bricks at US soldiers.... for free. The Lakers pay Shaq $18 million annually to throw bricks from the foul line. Maybe we could work something out.

hooda thunk it?

In 1989, Leona Helmsley (convicted tax evader) expressed her disdain for the majority of Americans and for the laws of the land. 11 years later that infamous remark bacame - and continues to be - the loudest unspoken campaign slogan of a certain shrub.

Correction

In my Sat Oct 25 blog I said that Fox News considered suing The Simpsons. It turns out that Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) was kidding when he said that. What's odd, though, is that during the week or so that the story was making the rounds on the news, nobody questioned it.

Does this mean that it's generally agreed that Fox News is dumb enough to sue another program on the same network?

Fox News: dumbing down so that you don't have to.
