'Splain Me This, Lucy

- World-wide hatred of our country is at an all-time high
- Our troops are way-over-committed to cause that detracts from the real war on terror: we are now less safe than ever from terrorists and nuclear states
- The whitewash is wearing off the true state of the economy
- Our military leaders, at the behest of high-up civilian bad apples, is now disgraced in a scandal
- Our leaders choose to ignore treaties and international agreements that protect US
- Corporate malfeasance - with the complicity of the feds - has destroyed investor confidence
- More and more Americans have been priced out of health care
- By design, the middle class is being squeezed out as we head towards being a third-world, third-rate country

And the Senate is actually bothering to argue over who should be allowed to marry whom? The issue was resolved 140 years ago. Haven't they heard of the 14th Amendment and "... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"? That's the law of the land.

This One Had Me Laughing Out Loud

This guy produces very elaborate, highly public, practical jokes. And he documents them with photos and text. Warning: each of these jokes takes several minutes to view and savor.

Not for folks who think too literally. These pranks are subtle - and it often took weeks for him to get "caught", even when a prank was executed in a very visible, high-traffic location.

So, just what will the Bush Campaign run on now?

So, just what will the Bush Campaign run on now?

War Preznit?
Looks like that's not going too well.

Hate Amendment?
Don't look now, but your wedge issue just gave you a wedgie.

The Economy?
-- U.S. retail sales fell in June by the most since February 2003, underscoring forecasts that consumer spending slowed in the second quarter from the previous three months.
-- So, consumer spending, which drives our economy, is off.
How about industrial output?
-- Output at U.S. factories, mines and utilities fell unexpectedly in June, recording its largest drop in more than a year, the Federal Reserve reported on Thursday.
-- The Fed said industrial production fell 0.3 percent in June after a downwardly revised 0.9 percent May increase. Wall Street had expected the June reading to be flat.
[snip]
-- The overall industrial production drop was the largest since April 2003, when it fell 0.6 percent.
-- Manufacturing output fell 0.1 percent, its first drop in 13 months, the Fed said. Utilities output decreased 2.3 percent, due to cooler-than-normal temperatures in the United States.

My friends, they have nothing to run on. A dismal record of illegal war, corruption and cronyism, and a ruined economy will not be too popular with the voting public.

All the Bush campaign can do is continue to sling mud at John Kerry.

Shamelessly lifted from Holden.

Saturn Up Close

The international Cassini-Huygens mission is beginning an extensive tour of Saturn, its majestic rings and 31 known moons. Launched Oct. 15, 1997, on a journey covering 3.5 billion kilometers (2.2 billion miles), Cassini is the most highly instrumented and scientifically capable planetary spacecraft ever flown. It has 12 instruments on the Cassini orbiter and six more on the Huygens probe.

The mission represents the best technical efforts of 260 scientists from the United States and 17 European nations. The cost of the Cassini mission is approximately $3 billion.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a four-year study of Saturn. The 18 highly sophisticated science instruments will study Saturn's rings, icy satellites, magnetosphere and Titan, the planet's largest moon.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. It is the second largest planet in our solar system, after Jupiter. The planet and ring system serve as a miniature model for the disc of gas and dust surrounding the early sun that formed the planets. Detailed knowledge of the dynamics of interactions among Saturn's elaborate rings and numerous moons will provide valuable data for understanding how each of the solar system's planets evolved.

What's Good For The Goose.....

President Bush criticized Democrats over a fund-raiser last week where celebrities called him a "thug" and a "liar." His campaign demanded that the Kerry-Edwards campaign release footage of the event. A spokesperson for John Kerry replied that the footage in question was being stored with Mr. Bush's Texas Air National Guard service records and "seems to have been accidentally destroyed."

Update: John Stewart (The Daily Show on the Comedy Central Channel) points out that this is the first time anyone ever demanded a video of a Whoopie Goldberg performance.

Things Are Tough Everywhere

Gasoline is so expensive that Houston energy executives are having to carpool to federal prison.
-- Argus Hamilton

And While We're At It, Happy Bastille Day

"Bullies attack and leaders inspire. We need, above all, a president who is not fazed by complexity. A president who likes to read. A president who loves history. A president who is rightly proud of the sacrifice of our ancestors."
-- T.H. Kerry

Why Does Bush Hate Our Veterans?

A new report shows that more than half a million veterans are going without health care benefits owed to them - and that the Bush administration has tried to keep those veterans in the dark.

According to Knight-Ridder newspapers, 572,000 veterans nationwide "are missing out on disability payments from the Veterans Administration" even though they are owed those payments from their service.

A large portion of these veterans are not receiving their payments because they do not know about them - a situation the White House has tried to perpetuate. In 2002, VA officials were ordered by the Bush administration "to cease efforts to enroll new patients into its health care system." The directive said it was "inappropriate" for local VA workers to attend health fairs, open houses and community meetings to educate veterans about their eligibility and to enroll them in health care programs.

The President's efforts to prevent veterans from getting the benefits they are owed came at the same time the White House was squeezing veterans programs overall. Specifically, the President has drastically underfunded veterans health care programs, leading to major veterans groups calling his policies a "disgrace" and noting his most recent budget falls $2.6 billion short of what is needed this year alone.

The President also raised premiums that veterans pay for their prescription drugs.

Forget Those Political Smear Ads - Here's What The Candidates REALLY Say

It's very difficult to understand a presidential candidate's stance on any given subject. The mass media generally air sound bites that last mere seconds. Complex subjects require much more time.

Campaign Search searches different media outlets for relevant information on just about every topic. You can listen to what Bush and Kerry think about tax reform, weapons of mass destruction and education.
